DEAR PIERCE, I do not know whether
you have a copy of the Appeal of the Independent Democrats. I regard
that as the most valuable
of my works. I expect to be in Concord, N. H., on Saturday night - after two or three days there my course is uncertain.

a George E. Pugh succeeded Chase as senator from Ohio. Chase's term expired March 3, 1855.
