John Austin Marling was the son of Samuel and Amelia Bratton Marling; he was born October 5, 1848 in Cambridge, Guernsey County, Ohio and was married in the same place to Susan Armstrong, the daughter of McLean and Lavina Elliott Armstrong. Susan, was born in Guernsey County on July 3, 1850. Sometime before 1895 the family moved to Columbus and the photograph shown here was taken in Columbus about 1895 probably just prior to the marriage of their oldest child Ralph. Margaret Susan Marling died December 31, 1921 and John Austin Marling died December 29, 1938, both in Columbus; they are buried at Union Cemetery, Columbus.
