Maurice Redman, Edith Madge, and Vera Kathleen Geering

This photograph is of my maternal grandmother, Edith Madge Geering, her sister, Vera Kathleen Geering, and her brother, Maurice Redman Geering. It was taken shortly after the death of their mother Sarah Emily (Morgan) Geering, at age thirty-nine years. The children's grandmother was Emily (Morgan) Madge from the Leigh/Malvern, Worcestershire, UK area and a sister to Susannah "Susan" (Morgan) Woodward who immigrated with her husband William Woodward, a blacksmith to Columbus, Ohio by 1876, as their daughter, Sarah Ann was born in Columbus, Ohio on Nov. 25, 1876.

There appears to be good evidence that Emily and Susannah's mother, Ann (Haywood) Morgan, died of PKD as did Emily and several other siblings of Emily and Susannah. It is very possible that other members of the Woodward family could also have dealt with kidney problems.

My grandmother was a very special, kind lady and I could no help but see the similarity in the description of Susan Woodward's death in the Columbus Evening Dispatch on May 24, 1880 stating that her death was "deeply regretted by a large circle of friends." My grandmother, called Madge as a first name, served as our community nurse (without any formal training) and was the first to offer help to anyone in need. She and her husband, Earl Jull, came to Poulsbo, WA in 1925 and raised their six children here. Earl became the Judge and was known for his fair, understanding, but firm, consistent rulings. Many times he managed to settle differences by paying for the parties to have coffee on him to talk it over, only to return to be willing to withdraw their suits.

Madge loved big family and friends getting together with easy laughter and fun. We always knew she missed her family in England and her heart was sad to have lost her mother so early and then leave her extended family behind in England. A stepmother is said to have destroyed all items belonging to her biological mother. I would dearly love to find them again in her memory.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to share any information that I have.
