2 Feb 1829 - 23 Mar 1913
An early Columbus resident who gave much to the community as an architect, contractor, designer, and carpenter, George Bellows Sr. was literally one of the men who built the Columbus of a century ago. Bellows was elected Franklin County Commissioner in 1894 and designed many buildings including the First Methodist Episcopal Church (Now First A. M. E. Zion Church) on 873 Bryden Road. He is the father of the great painter George W. Bellows (1882-1925).

The long-abandoned Bellows Elementary School at 725 Bellows Avenue in Franklinton was built in his honor.
