Carlisle Cemetery is located near the southeast corner of Noe Bixby Road and East Main Stree, on the grounds of an apartment complex. The gravestone insrcriptions were last copied by Frank A. Livingston in May 1939. Due to the poor condition of the cemetery at that time even that record is incomplete. The earliest stone found by Mr. Livingston was that of Thomas M. Enlows, died 1810, aged 17 years, 4 months, 10 days. The latest inscription was Amelia Holz Apple, died 18 Apr 1877, aged 15 years, 2 months. There were no stones still standing in 1981, but when we visited the site there were two veteran stones and a few others still standing. We photographed all the gravestones that we found with information on them. Additional information is available for some of the surnames recorded by Mr. Livingston:
The WPA plat map of the cemetery shows that there could have been as many as 512 graves in the cemetery. Aerial Photo of Cemetery,
