Gravestone PhotographsLocated behind the old church building in the tiny town of Alton in Prairie Township, the Alton M. E. Cemetery has only one stone still standing. It is a military stone erected for a Civil War Veteran. We found several places where stones had once been, but essentially there are no other graves visible. Since this page was originally uploaded to the Internet in late 2001 the Alton M. E. Cemetery was restored, on 10 November 2003, as much as is possible. A chain link fence has enclosed the cemetery and few of the original gravestones have been placed inside the fence. New gravestones were put in place for two Civil War Veterans who are buried in the cemetery. The service and sacrifice of those long ago veterans were recognized at a special Operation Flag Memorial Day ceremony, 26 May 2003. Aerial Photo of Cemetery,
