Potter's Field Cemetery, Marysville, Ohio

Gravestone Photographs

The above photo of the cemetery is a small part of a 1.05 acre parcel owned by the city of Marysville and just accross the railroad tracks from Oakdale Cemetery. Potter's Field burials are recorded in the Oakdale records. It is located directly across the road from the Foursquare Gospel Church, 654 Raymond Road. The metal plaques giving the names of those buried at this cemetery are old and rusty, but still legible. The earliest bears the year 1863 and the last is dated 1904. I believe the number located in the bottom right corner of each original marker is the number assigned to that person's interment. Not all interments are marked as the last burial was 20 August 1948. This is a complete inventory of all existing markers with additional burials listed below. The letter "C" appears to the right of some of the names; this indicates that the person was "colored." The names appear in the order the photographs were taken, beginning at the railroad track side of the cemetery and ending near Raymond Road. The cemetery is well cared for and is the final resting place for two veterans of the War of 1812.

In 1896 the directors of the Union County Infirmary (poor farm) purchased this triangle and named it Trihedron cemetery, though the name didn't "e;take" (See Mrs. Mary Brooks' obituary below).
