Burnside Cemetery, Washington Township, Union County, OH

Gravestone Photographs

This lovely little cemetery is on private property in rural Washington Township. It well back from the road and out of sight, which might explain why there is so little damage from vandalism.  However, the wheather has done it's share of damage to many of the stones. The land for this cemetery was donated by Nathan Burnside and it's likely that it began as a family graveyard as two of his children died young.

Take State Route 739 east from Byhalia to Osborne Road, then north to Cunninghame-Arbela Road. At a right angle curve in the road is a rusty old gate across a mown grass covered lane. This lane leads back into the cemetery.

A reading of the stones in the cemetery was taken in September 1985 by members of the Union County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. Items that apear in brackets ([ ]) were taken from that reading. This complete phtographic inventory of the cemetery was completed July 9, 2011.
