Saint John's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Worthington, OH

Gravestone Photographs

This lovely cemetery lies directly behind St. John's Episcopal Church in the center of old Worthington, on the south-east corner of Ohio 161 (Dublin-Granville Road) & Rt. 23 (High Street).  The earliest recorded burial was that of a baby, Orrel Kilbourne, born 28 November 1799, died 26 October 1800, daughter of James and Lucy (Fitch) Kilbourne.  The cemetery is the final resting place for many of the earliest settlers of Worthington, most of whom came here from Connecticut.  Some of the men buried here were among those who fought in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.  While well cared for, even this cemetery has suffered from time, elements, and vandals.  Many of the stones have been restored and many others are waiting for restoration (more, more, and still more).  Most of the gravestones are original, though some have been replaced with modern markers and monuments.
