Gravestone Photographs

Located on the grounds of the what is now known as the Columbus Developmental Center this cemetery holds the remains of those who died at the institution and were unclaimed by family or friends.  A few were buried here by their families because they were so loved while residing at the institution.  At first glance the cemetery seems to contain only a few gravestones, but when you begin to walk through this approximately three acre site you see the rows upon rows of tiny ground level markers.  Most of those that we saw had the date the patient/inmate was admitted to the institution and the date of death.  This, of course, indicates that the person might have been an adult though the dates might make it seem as if a child is buried beneath a particular stone.

This is just the bare beginning.  Recording all of the tiny stones will require several trips.  If you believe an ancestor or relative is buried here, I will be happy to look for them in the list found in Franklin County, Ohio Cemeteries,Prairie and Franklin Townships, compiled by The Franklin County Genealogical Society (Columbus 1984), volume 8 of 11.  But, please, don't ask that we photograph the stone. Finding one particular stone in this cemetery would require a lucky accident.  All that I can suggest is that you visit often to see if we have added the photo you are most interested in.
